I like taking photos of flowers; the colours, the patterns, the tones. However, living in the Canadian winter, I’ve been limited to only shooting fake (or dried) flowers we have around the house. They can still be pretty, but they lack the life of real flowers. I honestly can’t wait for spring to come and get outside. It’s too frickin’ cold and it’s not even officially winter yet.

The Beautiful and Natural Light
I miss shooting in natural light. The sun is always gone by the time I get off work during the week, so that only leaves the weekend. I took some shots of these snowflake cards that I found in the basement. I really like the shine that they give off when the sunlight hits them. It’s just a different feeling when using natural light when compared to using a flash.
The weather today was so ridiculous. -22 C with wind chill. I just looked out my window and I saw the trees shake. I could feel the cold in my room. I didn’t even want to step outside, so I just stayed at home and watched some shows and just bummed around. The day went by so quickly, even though I hardly did a thing.
Since my mom went back to Hong Kong, my Dad has become the fulltime cook. I enjoy my dad’s cooking. He makes an awesome lasagna (my favourite, if you didn’t know). I should start learning how to cook soon. I thinking about taking a course next year and having some fun.
It’s Monday again, back to work and waiting for another weekend of natural light.

My December
I’ve been sick for the last few days. I just got better from a cold a few weeks ago and now I’m down again. I’ve been dizzy with a headache the past 3 days and I’m slowly recovering from that, but my throat is so dry now.
I can’t believe it’s December already and 2009 is fast approaching. There’s a lot I want to do.
- Go to the Art Gallery of Ontario. I didn’t get a chance to go when it reopened a few weeks ago.
- See the holiday lights downtown. It must be quite festive.
- Go skating. I haven’t skated in a while and it should be fun to do it again.
- Take my Olympus out of the house. I’ve been shooting at home all this time and it’s getting a bit boring.
Knowing how things work, I’ll be lucky enough to get to do half of those things. Anyways, it’s still going to be a fun December. Well, after I get over being sick.

A human kind of drama
Usually, I like to keep it light and watch mostly comedies or action films. But recently, I’ve been watching a lot movies and shows that would be classified under the genre of human dramas. (Although, I think I picked up that term on DramaWiki). Anyways, basically it’s a genre that really focus on the character’s lives (which is kind of the definition of the drama genre?).
Kaze no Garden (Garden of the Wind) is a Japanese drama series about a doctor who is estranged from his family realizes that he will soon die due to an illness and he tries and reconnect with his children and father before he does. I like this show because the characters are realistic. It is interesting to see how the characters do the things that they do and make the decisions that they make. They are flawed, but that’s what being human is. The music is wonderful in this and also there is a beautiful garden (the title of the show) that can be said to be it’s own character in the show.
Tonight, I watched Nishi no Majo ga Shinda (The Witch of the West is Dead). It’s about the relationship between a grandmother and grand-daughter and the summer that they spent together. The granddaughter learns many things from her grandmother; becoming independent and learning to make her own decisions. Coincidentally, the movie takes place in the grandmother’s home surrounded by a beautiful forest and garden. The cinematography is great in this. The colours in house and in the garden are so warm. So many beautiful scenes. Also, the grandmother was played by Sachi Parker, a veteran American actress who was raised in Japan and fluent in Japanese. I am always amazed by non-Japanese people who speak Japanese fluently. She was great and the granddaughter was good as well.
I still have quite a bit drama shows/films here and there. They’re good for those long winter nights.

Off the path of self-destruction
I haven’t been taking care of myself very well lately. I haven’t been sleeping enough, over eating, eating junk and not exercising enough. With all those factors combined, my body finally couldn’t take it and I’m sick now. I’ve just been putting too much pressure on myself and I was stressed out about getting my JET Programme application finished before the deadline. I mailed the application today and I’m pretty much worry free. What’s done is done and I’ll know if I can continue on to the interview stage with this in January.
On a completely different note, I can’t believe that it’s almost the end of November. Christmas is around the corner and I can’t wait to take some holiday photos of family and friends. I have my tripod and flash, so I’m pretty much set.
